Vestmannaeyjar Island
Girl's Trip #2 — ICELAND
We took a ferry to Vestmannaeyjar Island and stayed the night to see puffins…and sheep! It's the midnight sun now in Iceland so nearly 20 hours of daylight!
Puffin nests all on the mountainside! The male and female take turns sitting on the egg.
Puffins mate for life. Each spring, they return to the exact same burrow in their nesting colony to reunite with their partner and raise a single chick together.
Lupines grow everywhere and help with erosion from the volcanoes on the island. Last one erupted in 1973 and the island had to be evacuated.

Gorgeous lupines cover the landscape everywhere. They were introduced in 1945 to combat severe soil erosion but spread too quickly and are now categorized as an invasive species.
